Scarlett Kim builds realities that defy categories and dodge easy labels. As Co-Founder and Executive Creative Producer of the Center for Unclassifiable Technologies & Experiences (C.U.T.E.), she conjures participatory worlds that bend time, crack genre, and make space for bodies, rituals, and stories that rarely get the spotlight. Scarlett moves fluidly between disciplines (performance, XR, game, and immersive tech) crafting experiences that ask audiences to show up fully and maybe even change. She’s currently an Interdisciplinary Fellow at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Visiting Artist at Stanford Arts, and Co-Founder of the Independent XR Distribution Coalition with MIT Open Doc Lab. Her recent run includes Worlds in Play at ASU’s MIX Center, the 10th anniversary Live Arts Exchange Festival with REDCAT and MOCA, a collab with Chloé Zhao and Book of Shadows, and a spot in the 2024 Disney Live Entertainment Creative Intensive. Before that? She led the innovation team at Oregon Shakespeare Festival and cooked up genre-busting performance labs at The Mortuary and CultureHub LA.
