The CEO & Creative Director of Montreal-based creative innovation studio Dpt., Nicolas S. Roy has been using technology as a tool to tell stories that feel personal, timely and necessary for nearly two decades. He has led the creation and production of more than 100 projects, developing AI-powered museum guides that personalize heritage, transforming the night sky into a living archive of digital memory, and staging participatory experiences that adapt in real time. Most recently, he led the production of "Oto's Planet," an interactive story set on a whimsical micro-world shaped by themes of colonization, coexistence and environmental care. Designed for the Apple Vision Pro, the experience enables participants to explore and shape the narrative, fostering space for empathy and reflection through play. It has toured over 20 festivals, including SXSW and Venice, earning more than 15 global awards and introducing thousands to the potential of VR and MR storytelling. Nicolas also helped secure a relationship with Apple, positioning the project as a standout in an emerging field. His work challenges audiences to think deeply, without ever losing sight of the power of wonder.
